Help A Brotha Out
I'm Kevin Horn, the Co-Writer, Co-Director, and Director of Photography of Panhandler. I studied Cinematography at Minneapolis Community and Technical College and have since gone on to work on numerous feature films and short films. Panhandler will be my 15th film since film school. You can view more of my work at http://kevinhornography.com
Meet John Karsko, our award winning Screenwriter and Co-Director of Panhandler. Like Kevin, he also went to Minneapolis Community and Technical college, studying both Screenwriting and Directing. While there, John and Kevin developed a strong working bond and have since gone on to make over 10 films together.
What is Panhandler?
Have you ever found yourself cornered by someone asking you for money? We all have. Chances are you shrugged them off or ignored their plea for help because you were either on your way somewhere or you frankly didn't want to deal with them. It's human nature to feel awkward in these situations which is why most of us avoid them at all costs.
Panhandler is a story about an experience I had with a man that I met on a trip to North Carolina in 2010. I was waiting for some friends on a park bench when the strange man approached me. I tried with all my power to avoid eye contact with him, hoping he'd just continue on his way. Sure enough, he sits down next to me and assures me he doesn't want any money. He knew what I was thinking. After brief introductions, the man went on to tell one of the most interesting stories that I ever heard. To this day, he is one of the biggest inspirations in my life. Take a moment to think about how many people you pass judgment on every day without even talking to them, and how many of them could be just the inspiration you need to get through the week.
Plot Synopsis
Ollie is not having a good night. His ex-girlfriend's band is having a show and Ollie subjects himself to song after song dealing with their breakup. He steps outside for some air and encounters Jim, a middle aged man Ollie assumes is a panhandler looking for money. After Jim assures Ollie he's only trying to find his misplaced car, the two strike up a conversation and discover they share similar interests as both are writers. Jim tells Ollie he's only pretending to be a homeless man in order to write about his experience, though Ollie remains skeptical. As the night progresses Ollie learns more about Jim and himself, possibly finding the inspiration for a great story to write and to get over his broken heart.Meet John Karsko, our award winning Screenwriter and Co-Director of Panhandler. Like Kevin, he also went to Minneapolis Community and Technical college, studying both Screenwriting and Directing. While there, John and Kevin developed a strong working bond and have since gone on to make over 10 films together.

When and where will Panhandler be made?
Production of Panhandler will take place in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, while the location in the story remains ambiguous. The production is scheduled to run for 4 days in late October (Oct. 25-28), while the post production schedule is TBD. We wish to release the film in early 2013.

Why do we need $5,000?
Making films is not cheap, but with proper planning and resourcefulness, a little can go a long way. Our goal of $5,000 will cover insurance, rentals, permits, craft services, and cast/crew fees. We plan to raise an additional budget for post production later in the year.
